We are delighted to invite children aged 13+ to our GCSE in Dance Workshop / Audition on Saturday 30th June 2024 at 4.00pm. This is open to both current and non-current students of the school.

The students will take part in a Contemporary based class (they do not need to have had experience in this genre of dance – as long as they have come to ballet / tap / modern / gymnastics class, it will be fine). They will learn part of one of the set dance phrases in the exam syllabus and will also participate in a choreography workshop.

If they are able to dance to the standard required for participation on the course (you will be informed by email during the following week) , there will be a short written task to do at home and finally there will be a meeting with parents and students (on Zoom) a few weeks later, to discuss how the GCSE is structured.

We aim for students to sit the GCSE one to two years in advance of the formal GCSE year, where possible, but it is also possible to sit the exam at the same time they are doing their subjects at their academic school. The syllabus encourages participants to be able to analyse and critique professional works, develop a strong sense of performance and explore the process of creating their work. It is an extremely good preparation for their other GCSE work as it includes the skills of creativity, fact retention, an open and growth mindset, taking responsibility for decision making processes and considering the skills of others.

WELL DONE TO ALL OF THIS YEAR’S COHORT WHO ACHIEVED GRADES A* – B !

We invite students from Year 9 upwards to join us for AQA GCSE in Dance. This course takes place on Saturday afternoons and offers experiences in practical dance, choreography and appreciation of professional dance pieces. Students are guided through the practical elements of the syllabus by our qualified teachers, to produce their own choreography in addition to their performance of set pieces. The written element of the course is an appreciation of 6 dance pieces. These are explored at the studio, with the students producing short essays as part of their self guided hours. Students attending this course must also participate in our Friday Contemporary dance class.
